Five Harley alumni score Mercury Prize 2014 nominations

Huge congratulations to East India Youth, Jungle, Royal Blood, Nick Mulvey and Anna Calvi, all of whom have earned themselves well-deserved nominations for this year’s prestigious Mercury Prize.

Radio presenter and all-round champion of new music Steve Lamacq recently described the Mercury Prize shortlist announcement as being like “the music industry having their exam results read out in public”. It certainly feels like that at Harley Live this year, where we were really excited to spot five Harley alumni on this year’s list.

East India Youth, Nick Mulvey and Royal Blood have all played storming shows at our place this year, with East India Youth causing a roadblock for his show and Royal Blood’s Harley-filmed ‘Little Monster’ video having clocked up over 1.5 million views, and counting.

Meanwhile, Jungle brought the party care of Semi Detached in late 2013, and Anna Calvi played on for us in spite of a broken hand back in 2011, around the release of her first record.

Here’s dishing out a big high five to all nominees.

We look forward to bringing you loads more of the most exciting new music for the rest of this year and into 2015. Speaking of which, isn’t it time you got yourself paid up for The Wytches (6th October) and Allah-Las (2nd October). Both shows look likely to sell out, so don’t sleep.
